He admitted on Sunday he was disappointed to be left out of Chelsea’s Champions League squad, while reports from Britain have linked him to Real Madrid.

The 30-year-old Chelsea midfielder was unhappy after being left out when Chelsea’s 23-man squad was named last week, but there is speculation in the British press he has been offered a deal to join the Spanish giants.

Ballack is still recovering from the ankle operation he had last April and the injury kept him out of Germany’s 2-0 Euro 2008 qualifier win over Wales in Cardiff on Saturday.

“Of course, I am disappointed to be left out, it is clear the decision was based on how long the doctors think I will be out for,” Ballack told the German Football Federation’s website.

“But I want to be back playing as quickly as possible. I need time to recover from the ankle injury. I have had two ankle operations and I still get a bit of pain, but I can’t train or play at the moment,” he said.

This is the first time Ballack has expressed his disappointment at Chelsea head coach Jose Mourinho leaving him out of his squad for the Champions League group stage games.

“I don’t really understand why Chelsea took this decision which has led to speculation,” said Ballack.

According to British Sunday tabloid paper The People, Ballack was omitted from Chelsea’s Champions League squad because he has agreed a switch to Real Madrid.

The 77-times capped Germany international was officially left out because of his injury, but the Sunday tabloid reports Ballack has agreed a 135,000 pounds a-week (200,000-euro) deal with Real Madrid.

Portugal was one of the teams with no luck at all in previous round of qualifications for Euro 2008. One of the most exciting leagues is no doubt the North American MLS . One weird thing happened lately with the Toronto FC . With a lot of injured players they are right now in a critic situation.

If bad luck had a name yesterday, surely it was Toronto FC , as the club extended its winless streak to 11 games in a 0-0 tie with Real Salt Lake in spite of FC outplaying its opponents. For those counting, it also extended the team’s Major League Soccer record goalless streak to 822 minutes.

But for all of the zeros at the end of the day, TFC players weren’t in the mood for giving up after a game in which they dominated at both ends of the pitch.

Right from the opening kick, the team descended on Salt Lake goaltender Nick Rimando almost at will with first rookie Andrea Lombardo, then Collin Samuel, Maurice Edu and Marvell Wynne all getting shots inside the penalty area.

Wynne later left the game with a hamstring injury.

All that an astounding 12-3 shots on goal advantage amounted to, however, was applause from the 20,098 fans at BMO Field.

Manager Mo Johnston , for the first time this year, was at a loss for words after the game.

“I’m absolutely speechless,” he said. “We controlled 90% of the play and came away empty.”

It’s hard to think of what’s left for Johnston to do other than throw on a shirt and shorts and put himself in front of the opposition goal.

“Listen, don’t think getting out there in the penalty box myself didn’t cross my mind,” he said.

Even the return in the second half by star striker Jeff Cunningham couldn’t steer the ball into the net.

Cunningham was playing his first game in almost two months after suffering a sports hernia.

With 96 goals on his MLS resume during stints with four teams including Salt Lake, Cunningham can’t figure how the ball won’t go into the net for this club.

“I’m telling you right now this is the most talented team I have ever played on in my MLS career,” he said. “I don’t understand it. I was sitting on the bench in the first half and I couldn’t believe my eyes.

“In any other game we should be ahead 3-0 after that first half.”

Johnston also announced he has been given a two-year extension on his contract with Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment Ltd. and already is planning a scouting trip to South America after the season to look at players.

“We are looking to add six or seven new players next season,” he said.
