Knowing Sports Book Terminology

Posted on June 14th, 2009 in Betting strategy by Raz

As with anything in life, if you know it well you will be better off in the long run! Well the same goes for making a bet or placing a wager at an online casino or an online sports book. The difference between most games at an online casino and an online sports book is that the sports book comes with their own set of terminology that they use to describe almost every bet and every scenario.

The great thing about online sports books and online sports book affiliates is that they will try to do almost everything in their power to make your gambling experience an easy one. They will post reviews on online sports books, they will host dictionaries that define sports terms and help you through the process at any chance they get. There is some extremely useful information on the internet for both online casino gamers and sports book fans so be sure to do your research.

It’s a good idea to learn the terms before any cash exchange because once you have made a bet (even if you don’t know what you have done) you have committed to that particular bet so you will simply have to wait and see the outcome.

Take advantage of the online tutorials that are offered on most sites and read as many sports betting guides as you can if you are a first timer to help get the edge that you need in order to make a confident bet that you are happy about. Learning the terms will help you in the long run and it’s not very difficult, before you knowing sports betting and casino terminology will become like a second language to you!

NBA Finals 2009

Posted on June 2nd, 2009 in Sportsbetting free tips by Raz

NBA Finals 2009  Orlando Magic are back in the NBA Finals for the first time since 1995—the only other time they have made it this far.

This squad has a different look in 2009, but the players still fill similar roles.

Rafer Alston was acquired from the Houston Rockets this season at the trade deadline after Jameer Nelson was lost to a season-ending injury.

Nelson was having an All-Star caliber season, and Orlando found the perfect guy to fill his shoes until he can return healthy next season.

Mickael Pietrus reminds of Dennis Scott. He catches the ball on the wing and he just lets it fly. If there’s a hand in his face, he is likely shooting it anyway. If he doesn’t shoot it, he is trying a pump fake and attempting to go down the baseline to the basket.

It’s obvious that Dwight Howard and Shaquille O’Neal could be compared. They have very similar styles and are sharing similar success for their Orlando careers. Shaq went to the NBA Finals in his third season. Dwight Howard did it in his fourth.

Howard struggles with free throws. Shaq struggles with free throws. Dwight has a dominant presence in the post. Shaq has a dominant presence in the post. They have both broken things attached to a backboard.

Rafer Alston has more flash and flare than Penny Hardaway did, but he also plays with more reckless abandon. This can be good and bad. At times, it appears that his shot selection might hurt the flow of the team’s offense.

Then you realize that this is Stan Van Gundy’s Orlando Magic. They want to shoot three point shots as much as they can. Playing from the inside out is too easy for them, I would guess. Maybe they want a challenge.

Whatever it is, the nights that Dwight Howard gets 40 points, as he did in game six, are very rare.

You can’t really compare Rashard Lewis to Horace Grant, because their styles are so different. Grant’s role was strictly to be a defender and get rebounds. He could hit the mid-range jump shots, but it wasn’t asked of him all that often.

Lewis, on the other hand, is part of Orlando’s three-point arsenal. They have seven guys on the current playoff roster who can make three-point shots on a regular basis. All of them are trying to shoot the three point shot when they are in the game as well.

Orlando has never had a player like Hedo Turkoglu before. He is a “point forward.” This means he plays the forward position, but he plays like a guard.

Orlando likes to let Turkoglu control the ball and come off the high screen to become a passer or take a jump shot. It is perfect for setting up their three point shots to other players and in return it gives him relatively high assist numbers.

Courtney Lee is an unsung hero. He has played with a fractured sinus cavity and looks like Rick Hamilton wearing that mask. He is still hitting big shots for Orlando when he is called upon.

Orlando was 2-0 against the Lakers this season. Nelson was Orlando’s leading scorer in both those games, averaging 27.5 points. He has been trying to convince the Magic for a chance at playing since the playoffs began, with each round the team advances the idea — and the talk — of him returning growing.

“I’m a competitor. I want to play,” Nelson said Tuesday.

The Magic’s title hopes took a major hit after he was injured. A trade-deadline deal that brought Alston from Houston largely saved the Magic’s season, allowing the rotation to remain the same and Johnson to continue to provide solid play as Alston’s backup.

The Magic are hoping Nelson can only add to that success.

Van Gundy, perhaps trying to keep his coaching strategy a secret, again expressed doubt Tuesday whether Nelson could seriously return for the Finals. But he also said that even if Nelson doesn’t play in Game 1, he could play later in the series.

This current rotation can put up 100 points a night with regularity. The Lakers can as well. This series may not’ve been what the NBA front office had initially hoped, but I do not think it will disappoint them too much once it is over.

Magic at Lakers Game 1

Posted on June 4th, 2009 in Sportsbetting free tips by Raz

Game 1 in Los Angeles
After so many games, here we are in front of the first gane of the NBA finals.

The Magic’s season seemed doomed when All-Star point guard Jameer Nelson went down with a shoulder injury in February. The team survived the adversity and now might get a recovered Nelson back for the Finals.

Van Gundy was still weighing whether to play Nelson, who averaged 27.5 points in the two wins over Los Angeles. He isn’t worried about Nelson disrupting Orlando’s chemistry, and Van Gundy is not convinced his return would provide any goose bumps.
I’ll see the advantage on the LAkers side and on the first game the balance will lean towards them.

Shooting Guard: Kobe Bryant, Lakers v. Courtney Lee, Magic
Look for a continuation of a Lee-Mickael Pietrus combo, but Bryant still tops their scoring totals 26.8 to 19.2.  Pietrus has taken on the Bruce Bowen role for the Magic as a defensive specialist and a master of the corner three-pointer.  Lee has a nice mid-range jumper and is more of a slasher than Pietrus.
And Kobe is Kobe.
Both Lee (6′5″  and 200 lbs) and Pietrus (6′6″ and 215 lbs) matchup well with Bryant (6′6″ and 205).
Advantage: Kobe—It’s Kobe.

Small Forward: Trevor Arzia, Lakers v. Hedo Turkoglu, Magic
Arzia is long and athletic enough to matchup and stay with Turkoglu. Turkoglu has issues with players that are quicker, not bigger. But Ariza has size (6′8″) and speed to stay with Turkoglu from the perimeter to the post.
Turkoglu has been shot inconsistently in the playoffs, but he’s always willing and able in the clutch. His scoring is down to 15.2 ppg from 16.8, but his assists are slightly higher.
In Orlando’s closest games, the Magic look to Turkoglu to make their offense go.
Arzia is definitely not the first, second, or third option on offense for the Lakers, but he is averaging 11.4 ppg while shooting 50 percent from behind the arc.
Even though this matchup will be close, I think Turkoglu will find ways to get his numbers and be the go-to guy in the fourth quarter.
Advantage: Turkoglu—Too many ways to score.

My next goal is winning the NBA championship,” Kobe said. “We don’t want to fall short of that.”

Los Angeles would seem to have everything — history, experience, star power, coaching, A-List celebrities — over Orlando.

The Lakers have won 14 titles. Orlando, 0.

The Lakers have won 61 Finals games. Orlando, 0.

Kobe’s  hunger for a new title will make the difference.

Lakers at Magic Game 4

Posted on June 11th, 2009 in Sportsbetting free tips by Raz

Game 4 of the NBA Finals in Orlando - Lakers leading 2-1 .
Tough contest so far - hard to predict if the Lakers can go ahead decisive considering that they show some sign of fatigue.

Bryant came out intent to land a knockout shot in Game 3. He eased into the offensive flow, but then went on a tear, scoring 17 points in the final 5:41 of the first quarter. At halftime, he had 21 and although the Magic were shooting an unconscious 75 percent, the Lakers trailed by only four points.
In the second half, Bryant shot just 3 of 10 from the field and missed four free throws. In the fourth quarter, normally his signature time, he went 2 of 6, missed all three 3-point attempts and had the ball stolen on a crucial possession in the last 30 seconds.

It should be noted that the Magic screen/roll game was much more effective due to the referees calling more fouls on tight defensive pressure behind the three-point line, forcing the Lakers to play a bit softer.

Also, Turkoglu did a better job of driving his defender (usually Trevor Ariza) into screens, while Howard did a better job of setting them. And on the occasion when the screen/was denied, Turkoglu would simply go left and try to get to the rim or uncork his step back jumpers.

From there on, it was just a matter of whether or not the Magic supporting cast would respond. And unlike the initial two games, the supporting cast came up huge.

Rashard Lewis proved big early (ten first half points) and late (a huge jump shot with a minute left that extended the Magic lead to three). As in Game Two, he warmed up in the post hitting a pair of nifty jumpers over Pau Gasol, and his three-point shooting followed suit.

I see a more careful approach by both teams and overall a low scoring game. Excepting the overtime in game 3, all the games went under 200 points.

NBA rumors and news

Posted on June 20th, 2009 in News & Reviews by Raz

A great season of the NBA just finished. The Los Angels Lakers deserved to win a great title after losing the finals last year against the mighty Celtics.
There’s a lot of questions regarding the future of the Lakers. What’s gonna happen now ?
Kobe Bryant said he plans to stay with the NBA champion Los Angeles Lakers even if he opts out of his contract this summer. Phil Jackson said his health will dictate whether he returns as coach. Jackson will decide about next season after he gets some health issues checked out. He signed a two-year contract extension last season and holds the option on a second year. The contract contains a date by which he is required to tell the Lakers of his intention to return, but Kupchak said the team is willing to give Jackson the time he needs to see a doctor.
Bryant wants Lakers management and owner Jerry Buss to bring back starter Trevor Ariza and sixth man Lamar Odom, who both become unrestricted free agents on July 1. Jackson also wants to see the team remain intact, including Ariza and Odom.

There’s a lot of rumors on the other teams too. A a possible move to Cleveland for center Yao Ming Houston ROckets) have swirled since a group of Chinese investors signed an agreement last month with the Cavaliers to become minority owners. The move is expected to boost the team’s popularity and marketing opportunities in China, where Cleveland star LeBron James is very popular.

Talking about the Rockets - another interesting news came out.  The Rockets are engaged in “very preliminary” discussions about offers the team may get for Tracy McGrady , and that the New York Knicks are one of the teams that could be vying for his services. The story also notes that the Knicks’ interest in McGrady is at the due dilligence stage, and is not serious at this point.

Another undecided player now , Carlos Boozer recently indicated on a national cable TV program that he is undecided about whether he’ll opt out of the final year of his Utah Jazz contract to enter the free agent market this summer, or if he’ll stick around in Utah to play out the final year.
Boozer has until June 30 to make his decision. The final remaining season on his Jazz deal would pay him $12,657,233.

Jason Kidd from  Dallas is among the free agents the Blazers are expected to pursue this off season - a few newspapers have speculated.

The Detroit Free Press reports the Knicks might be interested in a sign-and-trade deal involving forward David Lee to shed some salary, and the Pistons might be willing to listen. The Knicks are considered to be one of the teams angling to have a lot of salary-cap space for the summer of 2010 when the highly touted free-agent class of LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh and Amare Stoudemire are among the players expected to hit the market. But the Knicks might have to get rid of Lee, who could be in line for a big raise after averaging 16 points and 11.7 rebounds last year.

There’s a lot of movement from the Toronto Raptors court also. After The Philadelphia 76ers have traded forward Reggie Evans to the Toronto Raptors for shooter Jason Kapono seems that the Raptors are looking to resign shooter Carlos Delfino.

Stay tuned for NBA news and other information.
