NBA in London
Many of you think that it might be a mistake , an NBA game in London UK, but Commissioner David Stern did come through after saying for years that he wanted regular-season games in London before the 2012 Olympics in the city. It’s also very interesting that putting a permanent team in Europe is not something that is too far away.
The interesting fact is the teams that are playing this game, the bottom of the Eastern Conference, the Nets and the Raptors.
Hoping to play better outside of N America, the Raptors landed Wednesday morning, but already had their first practice at the O2 in the afternoon. Toronto is a is a team that has six men averaging double digits in scoring and another that is just about there. Of course, Linas Kleiza is out for the season, so he really doesn’t count, but DeMar DeRozan, Leandro Barbosa, Sonny Weems, Amir Johnson, and Jose Calderon do all count. Calderon and Barbosa make up a fantastic backcourt that is one of the most underappreciated in the game. Also, the new signing James Johnson, who was picked up at the NBA’s trade deadline from the Chicago Bulls. Johnson is averaging 9.0 points, 5.0 boards, and 3.0 assists per game since coming to the Raptors, and he could be key to getting Toronto over the hump for these two games over in London.
Jose Calderon, who scored a season-high 22 points in Toronto’s 96-90 win over the New Orleans Hornets on Tuesday and shows the he could be a decisive factor again.
New Jersey had lost six in a row, and it only has two covers against the NBA odds in this stretch. All eyes are going to be on the new superstar for the team, Deron Williams. Williams has played pretty well in his three games since coming over from the Utah Jazz. Williams had 13 points and a season-high 18 assists, including five in rallying New Jersey from a seven-point deficit late in the fourth quarter of New Jersey’s 104-103 overtime loss to the Phoenix Suns.
Hard to say who come out a winner in the battle of the NBA basement, but I think the Raptors have a litlle bit more quality and a better roaster. With that being said, the NBA underdog of the day is Toronto.
