Toronto Raptors at Boston Celtics
We’ll start the year with another free NBA tip on a team that I watched intensively and brought us several winning NBA picks last year, Toronto Raptors.
The Raptors are trying to win consecutive games for the first time since the start of last month. They won for just the fourth time in 16 games after beating Cleveland 120-105 on Wednesday to snap a three-game skid. Andrea Bargnani has really played well in his last two games after returning from injury. Bargnani scored 25 points and grabbed eight rebounds in the Raptors win over the Cavaliers, just one night after he had 23 points and six boards against the Bulls. Bargnani has struggled against the Celtics, but with Boston without Kevin Garnett, he could be in for a big game tonight.
DeMar DeRozan scored 27 against Boston earlier this week, but has totaled 31 in two games since. The swingman has accumulated 20 points in three visits to TD Garden and has been playing some great basketball lately.
The return of Rajon Rondo has really lifted the Celtics, and made it much easier to do with the loss of Garnett, who is likely out for at least another week. Rondo was unbelievable against the Spurs on Wednesday, scoring 12 points, dishing out 22 assists, and grabbing 10 rebounds for his second triple-double of the season. Ray Allen and Paul Pierce have excelled versus the Raptors. Allen is averaging 22.2 points on 52.2 percent shooting in his last 17 games against them, while Pierce has 21.8 points per game in 19 contests. They combined for 53 points Sunday.
A few trends to consider:
Raptors are 8-1-2 ATS in their last 11 Friday games.
Raptors are 4-1-2 ATS in their last 7 road games vs. a team with a home winning % of greater than .600.
Raptors are 4-1-1 ATS in their last 6 games following a SU win of more than 10 points.
Celtics are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games as a favorite.
Celtics are 2-8-1 ATS in their last 11 home games vs. a team with a road winning % of less than .400.
Celtics are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall.
Celtics are 2-9-1 ATS in their last 12 when their opponent scores 100 points or more in their previous game.
Celtics are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 home games.
Celtics are 0-5 ATS in their last 5 games following a S.U. win.
Celtics are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games as a home favorite.
Raptors had always entertaining games against the Celtics and tonight I don’t think will be an exception. Eventhough the balance is clearly in favor of the home team, I think backing the Raptors will be the way to go. The Celtics are coming off that big win against the Spurs, and likely won’t come in with that same intensity against a Toronto team they just beat.
