The Rise of Lebron
One day before the NBA tip off, LeBron James’ new “Rise” commercial will get a grin out of even his biggest critics. It features the controversial Miami Heat star showcasing all sides of his personality and doing so in a clever and fascinating manner.
The most highly scrutinized portion of the commercial will no doubt be James borrowing the famous Charles Barkley line, “I am not a role model.”
Also, a big shout out to Don Johnson from Miami Vice.
While some people could definitely pick this apart, there isn’t any doubt it is one of those commercials that makes you think about all the advice you have gotten and how it was always the personal path choosen – not someone’s opinion.
This isn’t about what LeBron James has done, or hasn’t done. This is about the difference between the expectations others may have of him versus the expectations he has of himself. What should he do? The answer is a question.
“In Rise, we amplify LeBron’s voice,” said Davide Grasso, Vice President of Global Brand Marketing. “We’re celebrating his courage to forge his own journey even when others may have disagreed with his decisions. It’s this Just Do It spirit that defines LeBron and Nike as we strive to inspire all young athletes.”
